ASM space

Roshan
Oracle DB 19c

Hello,

suppose we have a disk group with 8TB disk. Can we add a disk with different size? If we add a different size disk (e.g 10T) , there will be disk rebalance. Will all the data blocks move to 10TB disk ? Then we can drop the 8T disk?

Regards,

Roshan

If we drop the disk partition, will all data be lost?

Did you try? Can you add a different sized disk to an ASM diskgroup.. I think you wont be able to do this.

Starting on 12.1.0.2 ASM release, this ASM constraint/validation is available:

15410, 00000, "Disks in disk group %s do not have equal size."
// *Cause: The disks in the diskgroup were not of equal size.
// *Action: Ensure that all disks in the diskgroup are of equal size. If
//          adding new disks to the diskgroup, their size must be equal to
//          the size of the existing disks in the diskgroup. If resizing, all
//          disks in the diskgroup must be resized to the same size.

Please see -> 12c ASM: Unable To Add New Disks With Dissimilar Size To 12.1.0.2 ASM Diskgroups (Normal or High Redundancy) Due To ORA-15410 (New 12c ASM Enhancement Validation/Constraint) (Doc ID 1938950.1)
