Addition of OCR Mirror in RAC

satish
Dear Erman,

we only have one OCR in a high redundancy diskgroup(+OCRVOTE).we would like to add a mirror ocr copy now.can we add a ocr mirror copy to existing data or fra diskgroups which are having external redundancy?

[oraprod@node1~]$ ocrcheck
Status of Oracle Cluster Registry is as follows :
         Version                  :          4
         Total space (kbytes)     :     409568
         Used space (kbytes)      :       1696
         Available space (kbytes) :     407872
         ID                       : 1852974648
         Device/File Name         :   +OCRVOTE
                                    Device/File integrity check succeeded

                                    Device/File not configured

                                    Device/File not configured

                                    Device/File not configured

                                    Device/File not configured

         Cluster registry integrity check succeeded

Logical corruption check bypassed due to non-privileged user

[oraprod@node1~]$

I mean do we need to create a new diskgroup having luns as the same size as the LUN that currently hosts the original OCR and voting disks

OR

We can  add ocr mirror in an existing diskgroup with external +data or +fra diskgroups(external redundancy with different lunsizes than the original ocr luns)

Thank you

Satish,

Here are the facts:

--------
You can manually put the mirrored OCRs on a shared network file system (NFS), or on any cluster file system that is certified by Oracle
You should configure OCR in two independent disk groups.
At least two OCR locations if OCR is configured on an Oracle ASM disk group.
At least three OCR locations, if OCR is configured on non-mirrored or non-redundant storage. Oracle strongly recommends that you mirror OCR if the underlying storage is not RAID.
---------

You don’t have to create a dedicated diskgroup only for the Voting Disk and OCR.
