Applied patches to patch edition homes

satish
Dear Erman,

Need your expertise.

We are on R12.2.5

We didnt run the prepare phase and applied techstack patches to patch edition.(10.1.2 home, oracle common home, weblogic home and webtier home)

Now how can we proceed furthur, please suggest. Will we be able to proceed with cutover?

Thanks,

Satish

You didn't run prepare, so you won't run cutover.

If you patch the run fs without online patching (which can be considered as hotpatching), then you will need to run fs_clone later to sync the patch fs.

Normally, adop prepare will handle these hotpatching things, but since these are tech patches, you should better run a fs_clone..

Hi Dear Erman!
Interesting..

I hope you dont mind to ask here the question :)
they patched the patch filesystem without running prepare..
If they run the fs_clone now, then run fs ( no patches) would overwrite the "just patched"  fs.
Then  they would need to re-do correct way.  ( eirther prepare or hot patch)

Do you agree ?
Thx,Laurel

Thanks Laurel. You figured out an interesting case that Satish created.. This is one of that Aha moments! :) but it is a very interesting one :)

Okay, now I realized that Satish patched the patch edition without using online patching.

So, I agree with you. Satish need to re-do the patching by following the correct path. That patch should be re-applied either by using hot patching or online patching.. Ofcourse the required synchronization should be done by using online patching or fs_clone(if hot patching is used for re-applying the patch)

But, I would don't leave it to chance and do the following;

run fs_clone and synch the patch edition from run edition. (prepare phase would already do that sync , but as I said, we are already out of the context here, so I wouldn't leave it to chance :)
start an online patching cycle
apply the patche(es) to the patch edition.
finish the online patching cycle properly.
