Business continuity

latifa
Hi Erman,

We want to test disaster scenarios for oracle EBS 12.1.3 (with RAC and ASM for database).
What is the faster choice in term of configuration (if we want for example only one hour permitted to stop production application):

- logical host names.
- virtual host names
- physical host names

Thanks in advance for your help.

Regards,
Latifa

Hi Erman,

Thank you for the Doc ID. However how about these notes: 2088692.1 and 2246690.1

Our Oracle EBS is 12.1.3. can we apply one of them for our case ?

Aha..
You want to have a logical hostname based conf..

Take a look at the following note: It is for 12.x

Configuring Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.x Using Logical Host Names (Doc ID 1968231.1)

Take a look at the scenarios in above note.

Hi Erman,

how are you ? I hope fine.

Finaly, the client wants to do physical to physical tests of business continuity with keeping the same infrastructure. Oracle Net Service Name , SIDs, DB_UNIQUE_NAME will be different between source and target. Only DB_NAME which will be similar.

Today and in the same topic, I have a question about how to check and validate the process of DR ? I mean how can we justify the failover and going back to the primary production system.
Is there any script to check that ?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi Latifa,

I m fine. I hope you are okay too..

For testing the DR, we basically, stop the Dataguard managed recovery, create a guaranteed restore point, activate the standby , run postclone on DR apps node/nodes (actually, autoconfig is sufficient, if you do all the things in those documents beforehand) for configuring the DR apps node/nodes with the activated standby db and lastly do our tests..
Testing is done by the superusers. They test critical apps processes using OAF and forms screens.. (also runnng concurrent requests)

After finishing the tests, we shutdown the DR apps and restore our database to the guaranteed restore point, and  lastly make Dataguard managed recovery continue.
