Hi ,

Greetings!

Need your support on below on applying adop patches on EBS 12.2 standby application.

We have EBS 12.2.12 & Database 19c (19.21) with 2 nodes application (shared appl top) & another node DMZ. Also, we have DR standby EBS application created as a separate node to Primary database, along with we have standby DR database synced with DG from Primary.

Need your input on best way to patch Standby EBS application and how to synchronize that with Primary EBS node ?

Basically;

Stop the replication (DB Dataguard and APPS fs sync)
Patch the parimary
Start the replication (DB Dataguard and APPS fs sync)

See ->

Hi Erman

Thanks for the reply.

here i have a doubt, as the standby application is acting as a separate node which is connected to primary. Will this node participate in patching cycle ? Will the rsync really works here ?

Online patching cycle? Okay.. Adop will detect that you have a DR.
It will display something like this -> adop has detected a configured disaster recovery site.

But as I mentioned you will already follow ; Business Continuity for Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.2 Using Logical Host Names with an Oracle 12c Physical Standby Database (Doc ID 2246690.1) Section 10: Maintaining Oracle E-Business Suite with a Standby Database..

Replication is nothing do to with adop. You (as you sync your remote apps fs yourself) and your database (using dataguard) do that, but managing is important, as given in the document above.

Thanks for the replay.

Since standby application is acting as a separate node which is connected to Primary database, adop online patching cycles (like prepare, finalize,cutover,etc..) will try to run on standby application server also ?

What is the best approach here?

as per the note, the section 10 is mentioned for standby application server connected to standby database it seems.

Thanks for your support

Well.. I already answered this.

Again please visit -> Section 7: Maintaining Oracle E-Business Suite with a Standby Database
and concentrate on -> 7.3.2.3 Apply the patches to the standby using hotpatch mode using the nodatabaseportion option

Read that section 7 as a whole, it will clear your doubts.

Basically you manage it.. you stop dataguard managed recovery and apply the patch the primary, and then you start it again, the dataguard will transfer the db side patch changes to standby, and you using adop on standby synchronize the non-db changes of the patch to standby. So there is a semi-automatic approach there. Please read.
