EBS -- EBS 12.2.6/ Oracle Database 19C Upgrade

Clive
Hi,
Is it possible to perform this upgrade using EBS 12.2.6 Appliance installed on Virtual box VM? since this was built on OS - Linux 6.9. I know that 19c requires Linux 7x for the upgrade. If this is feasible, how does one achieve this?  And could the VM be exported and imported for use on another machine after the upgrade?

If it is not possible to use the Oracle VM Virtual Appliance for Oracle E-Business Suite 12.2.6 on Oracle Virtualbox, does it mean, a Vision installation of EBS 12.2.6 on Linux 7 and then the 19c database upgrade?

Thanks,
Cl

19C and Linux 7 is not a must.
If you want to upgrade EBS database 19C, then Linux 7 is must (for the db tier)
EBS 12.2 or 12.1 19C database upgrade is possible and supported.
Follow ->  Interoperability Notes: Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.2 with Oracle Database 19c (Doc ID 2552181.1)

You will also follow the document above for upgrading EBS 12.2 Database to 19C.

Installing EBS on Virtualbox is also possible, but it is not for production use. at least in my opinion you don't want that.

Thanks so much for your response. I had already installed the EBS 12.2.6 on Virtual Box. My concern was the upgrade of the database to 19c. I am aware of the interoperability notes as well. I  guess my concern is whether to do an in-place upgrade of Linux 6.9 to 7.5 or to re-install a new EBS vision 12.2.6 on a Linux 7.5 to allow the upgrade. The focus is the 19c upgrade.

If this env is important for you, then I recommend to you to install EBS vision on a fresh Linux 7.5.
We do the same for mission critical environments. We don't upgrade Linux 7 in place, unless it is an engineered system.. As you may know, we do image upgrades in engineered systems.. like Exadata..  It is okay for the engineered systems  to upgrade Linux 7 ... It is a part of the image upgrade process, it is managed and it is fully supported. However; upgrading Linux 7 on a traditional environment is riskiy. That s why we don't do in-place upgrades to Linux 7 in traditional systems.. This is what I recommended both for app tier and db tier.. for any platform that run mission critical oracle solutions..

Hello Erman,

Is it necessary to install EBS vision on a fresh Linux 7.5?
I thought it was only needed to install E-Business Suite Pre-Install RPM and than do the rapid clone from the source to the new target environment.

What do you mean by fresh linux?

You can install EBS Vision to any Linux (Of course supported one like Oracle Linux), as long as that Linux meets the requirements of EBS.

Hi Erman,

Actually, I'm planning to upgrade EBS 12.2.6 to use the database 19c.
The application and the database 12c are installed on separate Oracle Linux 6 server.
My action plan to do the upgrade is moving the database to a fresh install of Oracle Linux 7 then do a rapid clone of my appliction to a a fresh install of Oracle Linux 7. If everything works fine I will do the database upgrade applying all the required patches.
My question was about  the necessity of doing a new install of the application instead of doing a rapid clone.

Your method is correct.
Install a Fresh Oracle Linux 7 on a new host.
Migrate your EBS DB to that Linux 7 host and configure your apps to connect to the Database which is running on its new server.
Then plan your upgrade and upgrade your EBS Database to 19C.
No need to install the Apps Tier on a fresh Linux..
