Migration to exadata

Hi Erman
we are investigating that exadata migration about using different version database,is that possible can we use different version on same exadata machine?
For example;
11.2.0.3 and 11.2.0.4

Hi Jason,

This is supported.

Look what the document "Exadata Software and Hardware Support Lifecycle (Doc ID 1570460.1)" says;

Exadata supports multiple Oracle database versions on a single machine.  For example a customer might run an 11.2.0.2 database, an 11.2.0.3 database, and a 12.1.0.2 database at the same time on a single Exadata configuration.

Also note the following:

Maintain only a few active Oracle Home versions, because a proliferation of different database
versions causes additional maintenance complexity. Also remember that the Oracle Grid Infrastructure
software version must be the same as, or later than, the highest Oracle Database software version.

thx for fast reply also i want to ask another question, we are using goldengate(version is 11.1.1.1).
Normally we use that goldengate on rac machine which is 11.2.0.3 version database (but its not on the exadata) hence we must move this goldengate to exadata too.

In summary,we ll use 11.2.0.3 database and 11.2.0.4 database on same exadata and 11.2.0.3 database has to use goldengate 11.1.1.1,is that possible?
Or should we upgrade goldengate

Where will be the Goldengate installed? Which machine will it be installed? I mean the Goldengate itself..

exadata compression is optional.

i guess its not possible i found oracle document for goldengate;

Supporting delivery to Oracle Exadata with EHCC compressed data;
Oracle GoldenGate supports delivery to Oracle Exadata with Hybrid Columnar
Compression (EHCC) enabled for insert operations

With integrated capture mechanism, Goldengate can supports EHCC on Exadata

The Integrated Capture mechanism relies on Oracle’s internal log parsing and processing to capture DML transactions. By moving closer to the Oracle Database engine, Oracle GoldenGate can take advantage of new Oracle Database features and functionality more quickly.

For example, this new mechanism allows GoldenGate to support advanced features such as compression. Integrated Capture provides support for all flavors of Oracle compression, including hybrid columnar compression (EHCC) on Exadata, where as our “Classic” capture would not.
