Timezone upgrade - R12.2

satish
Dear Erman,

We have R12.2.5 instance and 19C database. We have currently time zone version 18. We want to upgrade to 43. We are unable to import table from a database with timezone 43 to this EBS database which is version 18.

We got some patches to apply at DB end and one patch at application end. But is it required to update java and do we need to apply any patches to FNW HOME? is it mandatory. Can you give us some idea?

Thanks,
Satish

Hi Erman,

We are following document  PNEWS2872 Complying with Daylight Saving Time (DST) and Time Zone Rule Changes in Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.x

The main reason to upgrade the timezone is that, we are trying to import table from different database which has 19c version with timezone version 43 into our EBS db, but our ebs database having timezone version 18, due to this we are unable to import the table in EBS database. As a fix, it was updated to upgrade the timezone version in EBS DB to 43.

We are operating only in india and we have all users accessing from India. Upto my knowledge, our environment will not be impacted. In this case, can we apply the patches listed in table 1 alone to database and one patch to application tier listed below. Can we skip applying patches to 10.1.2 home and FMW_HOME and also upgrading JDK version  in our case?

From Table 1: Daylight Saving Time (DST) and Time Zone Patches

DST v43 Database pre-req Patch <Patch 7695070>

DST v43 Upgrade Patch <Patch 36260493>

DST v43 OJVM Patch <Patch 36260537>

DST v43 EBS Time Zone Patch  <Patch 35645452>

Thanks,
SG

The statement of Oracle is clear ->

When a country or region changes its DST or other time zone rules, your EBS environment will require patching if either of the following two conditions applies:

Your EBS environment is located inside the affected country or region.
Your EBS environment is located outside the affected country or region, but you either conduct business in the affected country or region, or have customers or suppliers located there.
If neither of the above conditions applies, then your EBS environment is not affected and you do not need to apply any time zone patches.

And in order to understand if your environment is affected you should check Oracle Database DST Knowledge Document, which is in your case -> "3002390.1, Applying the DSTv43 update for the Oracle Database"

Re: Timezone upgrade - R12.2

Thanks for the update erman.

My EBS is not affected.

But the main reason why we wanted to upgrade the timezone is:

We are trying to import a custom table from OCI DB(19.28)  into EBS database(19.28).  We are facing below error.

ORA-39002: invalid operation
ORA-39405: Oracle Data Pump does not support importing from a source database with TSTZ version 43 into a target database with TSTZ version 18.

To fix this error, we are planning to upgrade TSTZ version of EBS DB from 18 to 43. In this case, is it enough to apply db patches and run timezone scripts in DB without applying any patches to FMW HOME and 10.1.2 home in R12 app server?

Thanks,
Satish

Okay. Again -> Oracle Says: "If neither of the above conditions [located in or doing business in an affected region] applies, then your EBS environment is not affected and you do not need to apply any time zone patches."

So if  your environment is functionally unaffected by the rules inside v43 and if your only "affectation" is a technical limitation of the Data Pump tool, then yes, you may consider skipping those patches. Still apply EBS-specific patch 35645452 for making EBS be aware of the new dst.
