backup EBSR12.1.3

Roshan
Hello,

i want to backup EBSR12.1.3 and its database. They are on the same nodes.

When i run adpreclone on EBSR12.1.3, which folders should I backup when after i do it? For example in 12.2.4 I tar EBSapps folder. But in R12.1.3 what should I backup?

only apps_st?

Regards
Roshan

As for the application tier backup;

You should have a complete backup of apps Tier + you should backup the $COMMON_TOP/clone folder everytime you execute adpreclone.pl appsTier.

When you deploy any custom objects such as forms or reports, you should backup those as well. (such as a new custom form or report) so if it is the case, consider backing up $CUSTOM_TOP folder periodically as well.

Also you should take a new backup of complete apps Tier , after applying an Apps patch.

You should also consider backing up concurrent request and out files as they are created day by day

note: you can backup apps tier when the services are up & running. You can use tar,cp or any similar tool for backing up the files, you can use storage techniques (Storage snapshots etc..) (if they are available on your System) to backup your apps filesystem as well.

Is it mandatory to tar the folders(apps and database) as root user?

I am getting the message "tar: Exiting with failure status due to previous errors" when compressing the tech_st for database as the owner of tech_st folder(orauat).

No it is not mandatory. Check tar logs. Try to understand on which file tar
is getting error and check that file.

how do I do the restore?

for the entire apps tier I only extract it and run perl adautocfg appsTier

for $CUSTOM_TOP and $INST/log I only extract the folder to their specific directory?

why should I backup $COMMON_TOP/clone?

thanks

Yes You extract the whole apps filesystem ( inst top and custom are already in apps filesystem ) , so no need for extra care.

Common top/clone is used in cloning. Having an uptodate commontop/clone directory ( created by adpreclone) is important for proper cloning.

You just tar and zip the whole apps filesystem for your backups. Daily or weekly, that s enough.
