backup using commvault

Roshan
Hi Erman,

I am planning to backup my datawarehouse database using Commvault IntelliSnap feature. Since I am using ASM, I will be using RDM feature also

https://documentation.commvault.com/commvault/v11/article?p=36447.htm

https://documentation.commvault.com/commvault/v11/article?p=37032.htm

I am planning to perform the snapshots on disk first(as shown in the diagram), DASh copy to disk on my primary site and do a DASH copy of the snaps from disk library to tape library(on another site).

Normally, a disk library is a logical container which is used to define one or more paths to storage called mount paths. These paths are defined explicitly to the location of the storage as a drive letter or a UNC path. As far as I understand, the mount path are like connection methods to the storage(NAS,SAN or DAS). Why the arrow for backup copy from the storage array to the disk library? It should be from disk library to storage? To which storage does the library connect to?

From the diagram above, the client here refers to the production server? Why is the library not located on the Media Server/Proxy?

Thanks,

Roshan

What diagram are you talking about?

What I can say by looking at the diagram diagram that I see from the link are as follows;

"Production Server" is your production server. It is written there.
You have a media agent running on your production server and it does the commvault specific backup actions in the production server environment.. So it is the agent of Commvault.
It seems you can also have a second agent named proxy agent for communicating the media agent.. It seems this is optional..

So you install the agent to your production server and then using Commvault interfaces you got your different types of backups.
IT seems you have storage snapshot option.
It seem you have disk or tape library backup solution as well.

So you give the command and the agent does the work for you.
I hope you re clear.
