I mean autoconfig is done as a part of postclone (adcfgclone), but there are other things that are done by postclone as well. First of all it is feeded by preclone.. So, it does things according to the preclone output... This is one of the apparent thing that make you see the difference between those two.

Thanks for correcting and your support all the time and also thanks for your time to update to my question

I know this is not supported but eager to know the difference

I will straightly come to the point.we didnt apply any autoconfig/rapid clone patches to prod instance and we didnt run adpreclone in apps tier.we just copied th EBSapps to taget and unzipped in target. In target we have the backup context file

In this case, will running autoconfig with backup context file will be enough? or do we need to run adcfgclone with backup context file. Here is where i wanted to know the difference

I think autoconfig will also generate the env's,tnsnames, listener etc... as we are giving the backup xml file

I am sorry if my question doesnt has any meaning

Thanks for your continous support erman.

Hi Erman,

Hope autoconfig can only create inst_top and cannot create fmw_home which only can be generated by adcfgclone based on adpreclone stage.

Please correct me if i am wrong

Yes.
Autoconfig is not designed to create FMW Home..
FMW Home is created during installation or cloning.

Yes.

You can test it.
For these kinds of things that you are wondering; you can always do simple tests in your TEST environment and see.

for ex:
connect to Apps TEST node using applmgr
unset env
go to the directory where autoconfig script is located.
run autoconfig
get the result.. (see whether autoconfig can be run without a proper apps env or not)
