Dear erman,

I am really tired by searching in internet for understanding the AVAILABLE and SHARED columns in below output and finally seeking your help

[orauat@erpuatdb1 ~]$ free -g
              total        used        free      shared  buff/cache   available
Mem:            125           7          78          23          40          91
Swap:           255           0         255


shared 23
Available 91--Also How this value was calculated

could you please help me in understanding the above 2 values

The defition of those 2 columns are as follows;

Ref: Linux free manual

Shared column -> Memory used (mostly) by tmpfs (Shmem in /proc/meminfo)

Available ->  Estimation of how much memory is available for starting new applications, without swapping. Unlike the data provided by  the cache or free fields, this field takes into account page cache and also that not all reclaimable memory slabs will be reclaimed due to items being in use .
