Where did your find this info? I mean the sequence of events.

What happens in cutover is as follows;

Cutover: (downtime in minutes)

It restarts the application on the patched copy.
Oracle cutovers to the patch edition of the FS , and cutovers to the patch edition of the db.
Oracle(adop) restarts the middle tier services.
Users are logged off when the middle tier is stopped. Run FS becomes the Patch FS (vice versa) and Run Db edition becomes the Patch Db edition (vice versa)
In this stage, a final maintanence is performed, too.
At the end, the users are brought back online on the patched System..

There is no two times switching of filesystems.

Okay.. Now I see what you are talking about..

By saying "Application Tier Services Switch Stage 2", you probably mean -> "Starting up services on new run APPL_TOP"

So it is just a name, there is no fs switch there.

Hi Erman,

Thanks for your reply.

What happens in cutover is as follows;

Cutover: (downtime in minutes)

It restarts the application on the patched copy.
Oracle cutovers to the patch edition of the FS , and cutovers to the patch edition of the db.
Oracle(adop) restarts the middle tier services.

In this stage, a final maintanence is performed, too.
At the end, the users are brought back online on the patched System..

regarding "It restarts the application on the patched copy"-->by this time services are already running in run file system,so if you say "It restarts the application on the patched copy",Is that means services will be running parallelly in both run and patch file system?

I mean ' will apps processes runs from both of these filesystems concurrently' at this stage?

Thanks

what will happen is, the apps services will be stopped while they are running in the current run file system and they will be started from the new run filesystem.

During the cutover phase, the managed servers (oacore and etc..) run simultaneously on the patch file system and run file system for a short time period, in a rolling transition process.

So if you are asking this, the answer is - > it happens in cutover phase.

Hi erman,

Thank you.Any specific reason for oracle for choosing rolling transition process.
Why don't it simply bring down services on run file system and start services on patch file system(new run)

Thanks
